There are many kinds of switches. What they have in common is that they tend to flip quickly from one state into another, different state.
A railroad switch, like the one shown above, can change the direction of the tracks. A light switch turns on the light or turns it off.
Your body also has switches. There are times when you make decisions, and times when your body makes them for you. Some people call them triggers — when you are triggered, your brain flips a switch, delivers a quick dose of cortisone, and you flip downward, into fight-freeze-or-flight mode. There are also triggers that flip a positive switch, delivering a dopamine rush that flips you upward into elation. The positive flip can also become an addiction.
A switch has the potential to quickly and dramatically shift a situation or system from one state to another.
What triggers you? What are you addicted to? What needs to flip or shift in your life right now? Is there a switch? Can you find or make one?
