Escape velocity: In celestial mechanics, escape velocity is the minimum speed required to escape the influence of a gravitational body.

In everyday life, things tend to be held in place by the gravitational pull of things like home, work, habits and routines. Occasionally something triggers a rapid acceleration that completely disrupts the status quo. You or your project hit escape velocity.
